Robert Lang addresses the need in San Diego to engage in better planning practices and increase density to accomodate future growth.
"San Diego is at a point where it must make serious decisions about how it will grow to accommodate future sun-hunting immigrants -- and that means increasing density -- whether people like it or not....Lang noted that the problem is not solely density, which the city has kept relatively high....One of the crucial problems for the region is poor planning, in poorly designed communities that make people dependent on their cars, Lang said. He said it was a matter of parking lots....Lang said the changes are crucial and will have to take place through mixed-use urban design."
