Workers Housing Opens In Downtown Salinas

City and developer transform skid-row housing.

An affordable housing project that was underway for the past 8 years recently reached its conclusion in Salinas, California. The 91-unit studio apartment complex, a long time dream of the local redevelopment authority, opened on September 21st and will welcome new its new residents on the 24th. Using state-approved tax credits to build the homes, Silverie Properties Inc. and the City of Salinas have transformed the most notorious skid-row hotels in the city into safe, decent and affordable housing for people who work in and around the downtown area.
