A determined housing developer plans to build a mixed, residential development next to a future landfill, against the recommendations of county and solid waste officials.

A housing developer "expects no difficulty attracting home buyers to his latest and perhaps most ambitious project - 500 feet from a future Pinellas County landfill." The 130 acre site, located in the densest county in Florida, is envisioned to attract industries and jobs as well as new residents. The developer plans to require residents to waive their rights to complain about odors, noise, etc. "As Florida's population sprawls into once-remote areas, residents have fought to close landfills or stop them from growing." Concerns were raised over the potential for the Pinellas landfill to be shutdown, and raise costs, as other counties in the past have had problems with housing built in proximity to landfills.
