The United Kingdom has over 65,000 hectares of brownfields. "English Partnerships chairman Margaret Ford has said: 'There is a huge potential to recycle brownfield land to meet housing growth targets, while reducing the pressure to develop the countryside.' " The government has pushed development on recycled brownfields, of which one-third is ready for development. "According to Wilson Bowden's analysis of the figures, only 11 per cent...is developable. Some 69 per cent is either uneconomic or constrained by regulation and 20 per cent is already in use."
