"Of particular concern are two amendments involving environmental issues. One would weaken air pollution rules. The other would weaken protections for dwindling fish species...Unless the Senate bestirs itself, two legislators will have rewritten an important part of a bedrock environmental law without so much as a hearing...Both of these amendments represent controversial policy choices that, at the very least, deserve measured debate."
