Attracting residents to the core of Downtown Los Angeles is tough. To make it easier, developers are adding as many amenities as they can afford, sweetening the deal for future Downtown apartment dwellers. With no experience, it is tough to determine what it takes to bring people to live in Los Angeles. " 'Downtown is a bit of a shot in the dark,' explains Peter Novak, vice president of GH Palmer Associates, developer of the Italian-inspired Medici and Orsini apartment complexes on the western and northern edges of Downtown." Amenities vary; including pools, spas, putting greens, children's playgrounds, pocket parks, gyms, views, courtyards, and historic elements. " 'Re-using historic doors and windows certainly increases the cost,' says Rocky Rockefeller, principal at Rockefeller Architecture and partner in MP5 Development, 'but we think it is well worth it to have the historic fabric in place.' "
