Vancouver To Introduce TravelSmart Transit Program

Greater Vancouver Regional District will apply targeted marketing to encourage more transit use.

Despite continued growth of vehicle ownership in the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), "there is a strong demand for increased utilization of different modes of transportation,"according to Translink Chairman Doug McCallum. In an effort to encourage more people to use transit, the GVRD will introduce TravelSmart, a program that focuses on an individual traveler's needs. The program begins by identifying appropriate target populations, and then uses individualized marketing to encourage people to change their behaviour by showing them how alternative means of transportation can serve their needs.
