The number of Americans traveling for the winter holidays is expected to come close to pre-pandemic levels, while remote work is leading to more diverse travel schedules.

Greater flexibility thanks to the growth of remote work is pushing holiday travel close to pre-pandemic levels as more people take longer trips than before, reports Tom Roussey for WJLA.
Ragina Ali, a spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic, says “We are seeing that people are in many cases leaving a little bit earlier trying to get ahead of that sort of holiday rush, and in many cases may be staying a little bit longer on the back end as well.” AAA expects roughly 112 million people to travel between December 23 and January 2.
According to Henry Bird, the general manager for the Dulles Airport hub of United Airlines, “besides Thursday and Friday, Monday and Tuesday of next week and the Monday and Tuesday the following week after New Year’s Day are expected to be the busiest air travel days for United Airlines this holiday season.”
