The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service proposal will protect federalland federal land in Riverside, Imperial and San Diego counties.It does not apply to private land unless federal permits or moneyis involved. Private landowners are apprehensive about the proposal. A public hearing on the proposal has been set for 1 p.m. July 20 at the Wyndham Palm Springs Hotel, 888 E. Tahquitz CanyonWay.
