The Australian Unity Wellbeing Index recently ranked Australia’s capital cities based on their residents’ feelings of personal wellbeing, safety, future financial security, community connections, personal relationships and standard of living. The Index also measured how residents felt about national issues including the state of the environment and governance. Showing the difference between a measure of feelings and more formal indicators, Perth residents’ ranked last of the capital cities in the measure of personal satisfaction, whilst a recent analysis of levels of employment, education and income ranked their city the second most advantaged capital city in the country. [Editor’s note: More details on the Index, what it measures and the survey results, are available at http://www.australianunity.com.au/au/info/wellbeingindex/]
