Salt Lake City mayor seeks to increase city population, density near transit lines.
In his State of the City speech, Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson laid out goals for urban population growth, transit-oriented development, and healing community divisions. He announced plans to add downtown housing in conjunction with Main Street and downtown development projects by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also discussed plans to add student housing to the University of Utah near the new light rail extension. In the next few months he will unveil a marketing campaign to promote living, working, and visiting downtown. Other goals include increasing drunk driving enforcement, publishing a "good neighbor" manual for new residents, and streamline the licensing and permitting process.
