Hunters and anglers from Western states concerned over proposed use of public lands.

The seven men in cowboy boots and hats and Wrangler jeans walking around Washington, D.C. represent a changing political philosophy in the Western states. These men, along with many ranchers, hunters, anglers, guides, and sportsmen have traditionally been solid supporters of the Republican party. However, the Bush administration's recent actions, which would open millions of acres of public lands to oil and gas drilling, hit too close to home. Prime wildlife territory is essential, not only to their professions, but also to their lifestyle...In addition to the lifestyle factor, wildlife has a significant economic impact in the West. For example, hunters, anglers and wildlife sightseers spend almost $900 million annually in Utah. One Montana resident says he is "sincerely sorry" he voted for Bush in the last election."
