Colorado is set to make “the country's single largest bet on e-bikes” with a $12 million income-based e-bike incentive program from the Colorado Energy Office and a $450 tax rebate from the state passed by the state legislature as part of the Governor Polis’ climate package, reports Sam Brasch for Colorado Public Radio.

The state programs could be combined with local offers such as Denver’s extremely popular e-bike rebate program. Unlike other rebates, Colorado’s incentives have no no cap on the number of discounts and no income restrictions. However, “Under the bill, if the state's economy grows by less than 4 percent in a given year, the e-bike tax credit would be cut in half.”

Supporters of active transportation hope the universally available rebate will incentivize more people to bike and increase political support for better bike infrastructure.
