The South Dakota city wants to encourage more biking and develop a comprehensive bike trail network.

The city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is updating its bicycle and pedestrian plans as part of its efforts to get more people on bikes and make the city safer for cycling and walking. The draft plan calls for putting bike trails within one mile of every resident and implementing Complete Streets principles, reports Megan Raposa in Sioux Falls Simplified.
According to the draft plan, one ‘highest-priority goal’ is to “Develop a complete bicycle network that is both comfortable and safe for all level of bicyclists through the addition of new on-street and trail facilities as identified in the Bicycle Plan.”
According to Raposa, “The latest draft of the plan looks to build on the progress of complete streets with an overarching goal to get 1% of Sioux Fallsians choosing bicycling as their main mode of transportation. The goal is also to increase ridership on the bike trails by 50%.”
