The Center for Regional Employment Strategies critiques of the Los Angeles EDC's Wal-Mart report as "fundamentally biased."
The Center for Regional Employment Strategies charges that the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation's recent report on the economic impacts of Wal-Mart Supercenters on the Los Angeles economy is funamentally flawed in favor of Wal-Mart. (Original article is here: < http://www.planetizen.com/news/item.php?id=12007 > "The report utilizes a flawed methodology which relies far too heavily on theoretical assumptions to make unrealistic estimates of economic outcomes. As a result, the report's conclusions on Wal-Mart's effect on the region are highly speculative. The report's format is presented as a cost/benefit analysis of the potential economic effects Wal-Mart Supercenters would have on the region. In our opinion, the claimed benefits are over-inflated while the costs are grossly underestimated."
