Height limits, first introduced by George Washington, still regulate the skyline of the nations capital allowing for some pleasant urban design side effects. Streets remain sunny and airy, unblocked by the shadows of tall skyscrapers. Neighborhood centers are flourishing. And architecture strives to find creative ways to make the best use of the space allowed.
