But urban areas that surrounds these famous beaches dump nearly a trillion gallons of polluted urban runoff into the ocean along those beaches. Experts say the problem will cost billions of dollars and will rival the efforts to control smog. Coastal pollution is becoming a serious issue following beach closure across the nation. What can Southern California do to solve the problem?
