Dallas's Black Neighborhoods Failed to Deliver

After World War II, black neigborhoods in Southern cities suffered overcrowding, and even those with money could not move up-- due to segregation.

A Dallas editorial in the late 1940's stated, "Wherever two very different races are called upon to exist side by side...segregration is the sensible solution." The new black neighborhoods in Dallas of Arlington Park and Hamilton Park were supposed to alleviate crowding, and offer businesses, churches schools, picnic areas and more. But the promises of middle-class black neighborhoods in Dallas could not overcome the effects of intense segregation.
