Affordable Housing Gets A Museum Exhibit

The National Building Museum's new display spotlights developing housing for mixed income levels.

"Affordable Housing: Designing an American Asset," presents 18 projects, most built within the last two years. Projects on display were chosen from across the United States. The exhibit defines affordability from the prospective of the $5.15 an hour minimum wage. At that level a person's monthly maximum outlay for rent and utilities should be $257.50. Census bureau national figures show the median apartment rent was $602 in 2000.
