The city will supply rental assistance grants through its Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

Jersey City officials announced a plan to use the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) to provide rental assistance to residents at risk of eviction, reports Daniel Israel in Tap Into Jersey City.
According to Israel, “At their September 20 meeting, the City Council members present adopted an ordinance supporting those who earn less than 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI) and are facing potential evictions due to the inability to pay rent.” The council voted to support the ordinance unanimously.
“City Attorney John McKinney previously said that the City has the ability to use certain funds in the AHTF for the purposes of rental assistance, provided that the City adopts detailed guidelines for the spending of those funds, what the funds may be used for, and the extent the funds may be used by the municipality for administration,” Israel explains.
