Fewer residents are venturing outside their homes to patronize local businesses as home-delivery services increase.

Home-delivery services for everything from groceries to dog grooming are on an increase in the Washington, D.C. area. Some speculate these services will weaken ties to the local community as people reduce their need to venture out into the neighborhood. However, others argue that home-delivery services create their own sense of community akin to the "old-fashioned milkman" and free them up to spend more time with their families.
