Detroit Launches Duplex Repair Program

The City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department is launching a Duplex Repair Program that the city hopes will preserve affordable rents for almost 150 units in suplexes, triplexes, and other multifamily buildings.

According to a press release from the city, the program “will provide financial resources for Detroit-based landlords to create safe, healthy and high-quality rental housing for Detroiters.”

The program allocates $2.3 million in grant funding for small landlords. Property owners can opt to receive up to $15,000 per unit for renovations on units with affordable rents. Owners can also receive a compliance rebate of $750 per unit.

Julie Schneider, director of the City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department, said “This program aims to support the Detroiters who own rental homes and are looking to do the right thing by ensuring their properties offer the best housing options possible for residents.”
