Colorado's Roan Plateau is home to one of the state's richest collections of plants and wildlife, as well abundant natural gas reserves.
In one of the latest debates surrounding the federal government's energy policies, residents of western Colorado and beyond are increasingly standing in opposition to plans to drill for natural gas atop Roan Plateau. "'I'm not sure I would be able to find someone who is 100% enthusiastic unless you talk to industry people,'" Rifle [CO] Mayor Keith Lambert says. But he concedes there is 'a possibility there could be a good marriage between industry and the interests of the rest of the public' if a middle ground is found that includes less development."
