This document describes Environment Canada's strategy to put Canada on a path towards long-term sustainability. This strategy will require "a shift in thinking and new approaches to making economic, social and environmental decisions... [and] the strategic use of market forces to ensure good economic policy is also good environmental and social policy." Environment Canada’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2004-2006 continues to "promote three key approaches to enhancing the capacity for integrated decision making – Information for Decision making, Innovative Instruments and Partnerships for Sustainable Development – as well as working to increase the sustainability of the operational aspects of the department."
