Traditional conceptions about suburbia no longer reflect modern suburban reality.

In this web-log from URBANPHOTO, Christopher Dewolf analyzes how some of the traditional distinctions between city and suburb are being erased. "It used to be that immigrants first settled in the city before working their way up the socio-economic ladder and buying themselves a nice split-level ranch in the suburbia." Today, however, many new immigrants move directly into areas that are a hybrid of a traditional ethnic enclave and a typical suburb - an 'ethnoburb'.
