Are 'Bland' Suburbs Things of the Past?

Colorado's local governments and new suburban homebuyers are asking developers for "something different."

Gone are the days of one-style-fits-all development. Potential buyers of homes in suburban developments are increasingly seeking unique interior and exterior designs. And production homebuilders are beginning to heed the call through increased flexibility of layouts and design features. As one industry representative states, "...[buyers] don't have to go along with the consortium of homebuilders and Realtors who keep building the same thing because people keep buying it." Some developers also agree that local government intervention can incentivize 'new urbanist' style communities.
