"Instead of using a traditional suburban tract grid, the project will cluster some houses along an old-fashioned-style Main Street facing a village green, central meeting place and general store. [New Urbanism] which gained notice in the late 1980's and early 1990's, promotes open space by clustering development. It also reduces the reliance on automobiles by offering amenities like a food market and recreation on the site. Many of the homes have porches in the front and garages in the back, and sidewalks run throughout the project. The goal is to get people to walk or bicycle, not drive, to their destinations and to interact with neighbors."
