Let the people vote for open space

A coalition of groups is pushing to put a vote for open space tax on the November ballot.

An unlikely group of allies called "Utahns for Clean Water, Clean Air and Quality Growth" is collecting signatures to put an open space tax on the November ballot in Utah. The group includes mayors, sportsmen's lobbyists, urban planners, and environmental groups. The proposed tax would be a .05% sales tax increase, expected to cost $44 annually for a family of four. The tax would raise $150 million over several years to pay off a conservation bond. A similar bill was propsed in the Utah legislature but did not make it out of committee.
