Just the second single-family home built in the West Village in the past 14 years, the new townhouse will feature a sleek steel facade.
Construction began in December on a new four-story modern townhouse in the heart of the historic Greenwich Village. The facade of the building will constucted from a single 17.4-ton piece of recycled steel. The architect argues the use of the steel is in character with the old warehouses in the neighborhood that were once the center of the city's meatpacking industry. Yet, most homes in the neighborhood are century-old brick townhomes costing millions of dollars. The couple building the new house has been reaching out to the neighbors to try to avoid disagreement with the design.
