U.S. News & World Report publishes 2005 rankings for 'City Management & Urban Policy' programs. [Updated 4/15/04]
The University of Kansas, Cleveland State University, and the University of Southern California are the top three ranked schools in U.S. News & World Report's 2005 ranking of America's Best Graduate Schools in the "Public Affairs Specialties: City Management & Urban Policy" category. The city management and urban policy rankings, completed in 2004, are based on a survey of deans, directors, and department chairs representing 253 master's programs provided by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. Although this is not strictly a rating of urban planning programs, it appears to be the closest ranking related to urban planning since the 1997 Gourman Reports of urban planning programs. [Editor note: Readers subsequently reported other top schools on the list, which is only available for a fee.] Other schools in the top 10 include: New York University (4), Northern Illinois University (4), University of Illinois-Chicago (6), University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (6), Syracuse University (8), University of Delaware (9), and University of North Texas (10), and University of California-Los Angeles (11).
