"Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s monthlong Motor City Makeover, a yearly effort to help beautify Detroit and bolster its image, begins Saturday. On the first four Saturdays of May, city residents are asked to bag litter, remove debris and plant flowers. Trash and overgrown lots continue to plague the city’s neighborhoods and image and spark complaints from residents, according to a report issued this month. 'The only way we will ever have a clean city is by everyone pulling together and pitching in to clean up our neighborhoods. Then we have to change our behavior in order to keep our city clean,' Kilpatrick said, in a pitch for volunteers."
