What makes a rural house a well designed one? Ireland's Cork County Council provides its guidelines.
Good rural home design is not just a matter of taste, according to a new publication by the Cork County Council's Planning Department in Ireland. "Cork Rural Design Guide: Building a New House in the Countryside" identifies "techniques and characteristics which can make your house more efficient, more practical and better related to its surroundings." The guide encourages "imaginative and radical as well as the tried and tested approaches to rural housing. It does this by promoting an understanding of key design principles and the characteristics of local heritage/landscape."
