A study shows that suburbanization around New York City is slowing down.
"A half-century of suburbanization paused in the late 1990's, even as public concern about suburban sprawl grew, according to a report on economic and demographic trends in 31 counties in and around New York City...
Dr. Hughes, a demographer, and Professor Seneca, an economist, attributed the trends in part to traffic constraints in the suburbs and a shortage of land for development, especially as open-space preservation programs expanded.
They also found that housing demand was shifting away from single-family suburban development, and would continue to do so. "
