Good Economy Benefits Kern County

Kern County Administrators release their pleasantly plump spending plan for fiscal year 2000-2001.

Kern County is finally able to enjoy the fruits of the current economic boom. A newly released county budget shows an increase of $111 million over last year's budget. The increase will benefit county services, complete infrastructure projects and fund deferred-maintenance lists. County supervisors warn that the inflated budgets may not be available in the future because much of the money is coming from "nonrecurring" sources like tobacco litigation settlement funds and crude oil prices.
