Riders took over 11 million bike share and scooter trips in 2024.

Chicago’s shared bike and e-scooter networks broke its annual ridership record in 2024 with over 11 million rides, reports John Greenfield in Streetsblog Chicago.
The numbers suggest more people are finding out bikes and e-scooters are a less expensive, more efficient (fewer difficulties with traffic jams or finding a legal parking spot), environmentally friendly, and fun way to get around than cars.
The Chicago Department of Transportation is currently installing 400 new bike share stations with a goal of having four stations per square mile across the city. “According to the agency, in 2024 it focused on installing new Divvy stations near important transit connections.”
The agency is also adding more e-bike and e-scooter charging docks to stations to reduce the amount of manual charging Divvy staff must do. CDOT added 50 miles of new bike lanes in 2023. New bike lanes have proven popular with local cyclists, even in Chicago’s harsh winter weather.
