The Wide-Shallow Lot: A Good Thing for Buyers or Builders?

In recent years, the wide-shallow lot has become a huge marketing success for the homebuilding industry. Its ability to deliver a consistently attractive front elevation results from the less prominent appearance of the the garage as compared with homes built on conventional narrower lots. However, argues Bryan Levman, buyers of wide-shallow product may not be considering other important factors such as the fact that they are likely purchasing less land for the same price or that there is far less variety and flexibility in available floor plans given their lot's reduced depth.
