LMDC passes on biggest names, opting for a new museum, two theater companies, and an art center.
The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation has selected the Freedom Center, the Joyce International Dance Center, the Signature Theatre, and the Drawing Center to be the cultural occupants of the new World Trade Center design. While city officials had been in talks with a number of larger institutions, such as the Metropolitan Opera and the Museum of the City of New York, the LMDC picked the less well-known groups for the $400 million cultural center.
