California officials have been ordered to revise a plan to distribute $2.9 billion in school construction funds by August 18. Such a revision could mean millions of more dollars for the Los Angeles Unified School District because it takes into consideration a district's need for funds, not simply how quickly they can make a fund request a la the current first-come, first-serve mechanism for monetary distribution. Completed applications still need to be submitted on time but, "Priority points are designed to give priority to the most needy district," said Deputy Attorney General Chris Foley.
