With the growth of eBay and the 'Shabby Chic' style, many historic buildings in America have been ransacked, not for electronics or personal possessions, but for doorknobs, mantelpieces, and even lumber. Sold online or in antique stores to unknowing decorators, many preservations worry the trend will escalate, damaging historic sites.
