A remarkable reconstruction effort is underway in Dresden, Germany, a city destroyed during the Second World War.

The Frauenkirche, the Dresden landmark whose dome - as high as St Paul's Cathedral in London - collapsed after bombing in 1945, has been faithfully reconstructed in an astonishing technical feat that represents the triumph of hope over the destruction of war. The engineer responsible has this week been elected to INTBAU's advisory Committee of Honour and speaks exclusively about his feelings on seeing the building completed.
