Bangkok Tries Congestion Pricing

While Thailand's Traffic Office plans to charge drivers for using center-city roads, high-speed railways will shuttle commuters around the city of 10 million.

In an effort to reduce traffic in the heart of Bangkok, Thai officials will begin collecting a toll to drive in the commercial business district. Unlike London and Singapore, which has enacted similar restrictions, Bangkok's unique traffic culture creates new problems for planners, such as how to handle a city where half of all commuters use motorbikes instead of cars.
