Americans Change Driving Habits, Keep Cars

A new Associated Press poll finds that while two-thirds altered their routes or allowed more time for a commute, only one in twenty took mass transit.

As lawmakers grapple with the constant problem of traffic, new poll numbers give insight into the American commuters' mindset. Though 80% thought traffic had gotten worse in their area in the past five years, only around 50% were willing to pay higher taxes to fund road improvement. Americans, clearly, want to have their car and drive it too. Meanwhile, Bush plans to veto any of the proposed five cent gasoline taxes floating around Congress.
