The Northern Calfornia city of Rancho Cordova plans to build mini downtowns around each of its light rail stations.

Coupled with enhanced transit infrastructure and a visionary mayor, the newest city in California's Sacramento Region, the City of Rancho Cordova is poised to reverse its image. For decades the Folsom Boulavard corridor has been a poster child for what is inherently wrong with outdated growth initiatives which lead to sprawl and decay. Mayor Linda Budge and the Rancho Cordova City Counsel envision the region's largest transit oriented development centered around a new Light rail line that has just been completed. The city hopes Smart Growth principles will transform the area around the two new stations into "mini, downtown-style developments."
