Over the next 25 years, more than 6 million people will join the 17 million already living in Southern California, and there's no doubt some of the newcomers will insist on living halfway to the Mojave desert. But if more people don't live in towns and city centers, we'll all die of smog, traffic and other wretched maladies. So say the leaders of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). Unfortunately, nobody ever listens to anything SCAG says, writes Steve Lopez.
