A new mixed-use project could revive a historic Chicago neighborhood.

"Going back at least a quarter-century, Chicago's Uptown district - stretching along Broadway and Sheridan Road between Montrose and Lawrence Avenues - has seemed the raw essence of blight, its shuttered stores, crumbling movie palaces and reputation for arson spooking all but the hardiest urban adventurers. But in the quarter century between World Wars, when the neighborhood was young and very much the place to be, Uptown boasted a wholly different image...

This spring, though, saw the arrival of Uptown Square, a mixed-use redevelopment of an entire city block now seen as a keystone in a possible resurrection of the area."
