The Gardner neighborhood in San Jose, CA, in partnership with the Dept. Of Urban Planningat San Jose State University, has created a grass-roots community improvement plan.Developed at a day-ling workshop, the plan calls for basic improvements such as better sidewalks, as well as ambitious improvements such as a new community center. hisgrass-roots strategy is part of the 18-neighborhood Strong Neighborhood Initiative (SNI)."SNI serves as an umbrella for resources offered bythe city planning department, the redevelopment agency and other public and private partnerships to improve the quality of life inneighborhoods throughout San Jose."
