WTC Architect, Developer Fight Over Fees

Daniel Libeskind's suit against Silverstein Properties claims the developer is punishing the architect for protesting changes to the master plan.

Despite standing on the same stage for the laying of the Freedom Tower cornerstone on July 4th, court papers filed by the architect reveal a much more strained relationship. Libeskind claims that he is owed $850,000 for creative services; Silverstein says that without time sheets, the best it can offer is $225,000. The larger fight is ultimately about the alterations the development team wants to make to the master plan for the site. Libeskind alleges that Silverstein hopes to replace the architect with the developers' own architecture firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
