As young white professionals move into Koreatown and the central business district, many locals are wondering how 'rooted' these new residents will be. This is not just a matter of demographics; for the ethnically-bonded neighborhoods of Los Angeles, white migration traditionally meant displacement and hardship. Gregory Rodriguez says residents have little to fear; these Anglo pioneers are at home with a diverse crowd, yet will probably move back to the suburbs in a few years. Long-term improvements, Rodriguez says, will come from the ethnic majority who remain tied to geography.
