Kenneth Adelman had thought the entire coastline of California had never been photographed before. "Future generations would have a reference point, from Crescent City to Imperial Beach, to help preserve the state’s greatest attraction. The result was the California Coastal Records Project, an online repository of 12,000 aerial photos of every inch of the state’s seaside – even the part that includes Barbra Streisand’s home." What he didn't know was that the state had conducted similar surveys in 1972 and 1979. Comparing the three sets of photos tells a troubling story.
