Affluent communities in Chicago's North Shore are up in arms concerning Illinois' inclusionary housing requirements.

Declaring Illinois Inclusionary housing laws as unacceptable "social engineering," North Shore community leaders gear up to fight for what they believe would lower property values and raise taxes: "The law, passed last summer, requires communities that lack affordable housing to step up efforts to create some or face the possibility that their zoning and development decisions could be overruled by a state board... The state is scheduled this fall to produce a list of towns where less than 10 percent of the housing is considered affordable. Those towns will have until April to develop plans to meet state affordable-housing goals."
